Whenever i attach it to the base i get the home icon then a message that says to remove the nest from base and reattach it and then it restarts and does the same thing. Switch power back on breaker box switch.

Nest please attach display to base. After a couple of minutes the light will turn light green and should see a message on your display saying please attach the display to its base. Attach the nest display. We got our nest 3g on black friday 2016 and it worked just fine throughout the winter. Press the beautiful glass face of the nest thermostat right onto the base. Use the other two short screws to attach the nest base and trim plate to the steel plate. If things dont light up then go back to the previous step and check your thermostat wiring connections.
But the unit did come up as a mass storage device. Turn on the power. Last night i finally ran a new run of 187 between the furnace and thermostat to add a c wire and it completely solved the problem. Attach display press the display until it clicks into place. Some time about a year or so ago it started dying on the base and wed have to charge it twice a day. After running a series of interesting characters on the display i got this message please attach the display to its base. If you dont hear the display click use your thumb to push. Dont screw or tilt it in just line it up and press in place.
It will light up when attached properly. Connect wires after all the wires are connected make sure theyre flush with the wall. Attach the nest display line up the pin connector on the back of the display and push it onto the base until it clicks into place. I havent been able to get past this message to install or set anything up.
