The boots should blow up a little. There could be a little excess around the ball and spring but still plenty of lube where you need it.

The boot just has a small tear in it i noticed grease coming out of it as i was removing the a arm. I was hoping i could just get a replacement boot but that is not the case. When a cv boot cracks or tears it will usually leak grease onto the inside of the wheel. Next attach the grease gun to the zerk. Grease leaking out is abnormal for tie rods but the boots on them still look to be filled with some grease so it could have been excess. Or at least lst time i did it it was that way on my 2000 the lowers are a pain in the ass.
With hands at the 6 oclock and 12 oclock you can try to wobble to wheel. If the boot is torn or just plain gone chances are so is the ball joint. Pump as much as you can until you see the new stuff come out wipe away dirty stuff carry on smartly. If it is out of the metal nubby fitting then this a good possibility. That will test for the ball joint. Id wipe them off and check every couple days.
First look to see that the rubber boots holding the grease inside the ball joint are in good shape. If grease is coming out and they are still flat then it is bad. A grease leak is the first symptom that is most commonly associated with a bad or failing cv boot. I was going to go and give the zerk fittings a few shots of grease per side but i keep finding conflicting information on just how much grease to put in. Ball joints tend to make one large pop or crack on turning when failing however.
