2 red 2 black wires light switch. I have a 3 way switch with 2 red wires and 2 black wires and a ground and trying to figure out which wire goes where. If the switch that was there is a standard light switch with two brass screws on it and one green screw you can connect the red wire to either of the brass screws. None are hot unless the other light switch is turned on in which one of the reds is hot.
Connect the 2 black wires 1each to the brass screws on the new switch. If you have a ground wire connect the ground wire to the green screw. Light switch has red and black wires. One of the blacks is a switch wire the other is the neutral. How is it connected at the moment. Last edited by ray2047.
The two reds together in a connector. Unfortunately i removed all the wires from the switch. The switch looks like this. 12 22 12 at 0453 pm. Connect the black wire to the other brass screw. A 3 way is also a single pole.
I tested the other wires on the hot red to see which turn the light on and thats one of the black wires. It has 4 wires 2 red and 2 black the 2 black go to two different common terminals and the 2 red go to two different l2 terminals what type of switch is this and how do i replace it as the new switches only have two terminals l1 and l2 this is the only switch for the kitchen light so it is not a 2 way switch or anything like that. There were 2 red and 2 black wires connected to the 4 terminals. Yep just transfer the wires across to the new switch connecting them to the same terminals as they are now. Rf lighting 21 nov 2010.
