Jim k good morning i have 2 batteries connected together to make 24 volts for my trolling motormy question is can i use 1 battery for my outboard for a 12 volt starting and charging system without disconnecting the 2 batteries. At my house i took two 9v batteries and connected them in line with each other to the switch.

If you connect them as series connection scheme then you will have a 18 volts battery or 0 volt battery depending on electrodes connected together if you connect them parallel positive to positive and negative to negative then you have a 8 volts battery that lasts twice but if they are connected parallel but positive to negative then they start discharging and heat will be generated.
